Nearly 70 per cent of Sewage Treatment plant in India are either not working or closed, since the cost of running these plants is high.  He added that to all it properly functional, one need  to use of sludge and produce methane gas, which can generate power for these sewage treatment plants.

Mr. Javadekar added that technologies which work in western countries may not be practical for us. We have  tried  various techniques, but, we still don’t have a waste management model. To analyze every potential solution and then suggest the best method for solid waste management our ministry will have an expert committee in cities.
