Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has made Sewage Treatment plant (STP) as a compulsory criteria for giving Occupancy Certificate (OC) to housing societies. However, here is no STP plant in its jurisdiction, untreated wastes are being released into creeks and nullahs,

In the RTI, the corporation is requested to provide details of STP within its jurisdiction with respect to their location and capacity of treating waste, the working condition with respect to available records in reply to which TMC has replied that they don’t own a STP.

According to RTI activist it is ironical that for housing societies STP is a must, but the corporation does not believe and this is evident from the RTI.” TMC public relations officer and deputy civic commissioner Sandeep Malvi said, “Work is under progress, however, the waste is given conventional treatment before disposing them of into nullah or creek.”
